Should GMA resign? Upsides, downsides

I saw the picture of Winnie Monsod and was surprised to see that her real name is Solita Collas-Monsod. This is the first time that I will read her column. ‘Should GMA resign? Upsides, downsides,’ I was curious with the title. What would Monsod say about the president? She had raised her points well, yet I’m not convinced that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo should stay, just because there is no assurance if Vice President Noli de Castro will succeed her. Actually, that issue is quite hot nowadays.

Political groups aren’t sure if they will support de Castro if Arroyo gets impeached or if he will run for presidency in the 2010 election. As Senator Kiko Pangilinan said, the role of the vice president is sala sa init, sala sa lamig. If he gets too close to the president, he’s sipsip. And if he goes against her, he’s eager to grab the presidential position. Whatever he will do, people will always have a negative opinion against him. Moving on, the questionable ability of de Castro is not the reason for Arroyo to resign. Changing leader will provide the solution for the country’s problem. As Monsod said, “There is no quick fix.” And for that I say, so we should not wait longer and lose time. Let’s begin fixing it now and that should begin with the removal of Arroyo in Malacañang.
