NBI arrests 2 fake car agents
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed charges on inquest Thursday for Robbery/Extortion, Estafa and Falsification of Public Documents under the Revised Penal Code before the Las Piñas City Prosecutor Office against two fake car sales agents.
Manuel Laborte, a resident of Parañaque City; Alberto Navarra and Alberto Eusebio, both of Las Piñas City, were arrested in an entrapment operation after demanding P350,000 to the complainant, and afterwards were detained at the NBI jail for falsifying deed of sales as documents to redeem mortgaged vehicle.
NBI Background Investigation Division Chief Arnold Lazaro said the case stemmed when the suspects reportedly acted as sales agent in January 2008. Laborte said Imelda Paule was several months delayed in payments weeks after she mortgaged her Starex Hyundai van for P200,000 to Jay Ibanez with 10% monthly interest.
To prevent the withdrawal of the mortgage, the suspects informed Paule that the van was sold to a certain Enrique Gonzaga Ong, to whom she executed a Deed of Sale. After the documents were processed, Navarra handed P50,000 to Paule’s husband and P200,000 for Ibanez. The documents were discovered falsified upon the verification of PS Bank, since Gonzaga Ong could not be found. However, the suspects called up Paule last month and demanded P350,000 cash for the recovery of the van, prompting the complainant to ask the assistance of the NBI. Maanne Lopez
